When I was substituting for an elementary art teacher for a week, the teacher knew I was an author and illustrator. She thought it would be fun for her students to hear Ollie's story. For all of her classes, I was going to read Ollie the Octopus. The student’s assignment was to draw a picture from the story – whether it be their favorite character, scene, or anything relating to the book.
It was going to be my first-time reading Ollie to kids I didn’t know. I was excited. The assignment for the whole week went well – the kids liked the book, and they had fun talking to me about it.
My favorite part was when they called me over to show me their finished work!
